Does Vaping Set Off Fire and Smoke Alarms?
As an adult who vapes, you might have questions about some things we encounter that vaping might impact. For example, do vapes set off fire and smoke alarms?
What’s the difference between fire alarms and smoke alarms?
Although you may not know it, there’s a significant difference between fire alarms and smoke alarms. As a matter of fact, smoke alarms are actually smoke detectors, and they work alongside fire alarms. More specifically, when smoke fills a room, the smoke detector identifies its presence and notifies the fire alarm, which will sound to alert people in the building.
How Likely is a Vape to Set Off a Fire Alarm?
Modern fire alarm systems have been designed to ignore non-hazardous vapours and, in most cases, your vape should not trigger them. However, there are different types of smoke detectors and fire alarms. Each works differently and, therefore, may be more or less likely to react to the vapour from an e-cigarette.
So there is still a chance that vaping could set off a fire alarm.
Here’s what you can do to avoid this scenario:
- Don’t use your e-cigarette close to a smoke detector/fire alarm.
- Choose a room with good ventilation.
- Pay extra care when vaping, and don’t create any dense vapour clouds.
