Hundreds of scientists and engineers at Philip Morris International global research and development centres in Switzerland and Singapore have worked with dedication to develop and evaluate IQOS.

2. The key role of heating – not burning –tobacco

By now, you must have noticed that your IQOS device heats tobacco instead of burning it. This is what makes IQOS essentially different than cigarettes. More specifically, cigarette smoke produced from burning tobacco contains over 6000 chemical substances, around 100 of which have been linked to smoking-related diseases. With IQOS, there is no combustion. And as you’ve heard dozens of times… there’s no smoke without fire! Your IQOS generates a tobacco vapor that brings you a real tobacco taste experience, without tar, ash or cigarette smoke.

3. Scientifically tested to the highest standards

Before reaching you, your IQOS went through thorough scientific assessments, including clinical and non-clinical studies, conducted according to international standards.

4. Assessment doesn’t end here

Our long-term studies conducted since IQOS became available in the market, allow us to examine its use in real life conditions, in order to identify and prevent use or uptake by unintended audiences. Furthermore, these studies help us monitor reports of health effects and evaluate the possibility of diseases. We are happy to say that so far, all the data we’ve seen points in the right direction.
